41 roles
BELLE is a smart, confident young woman from a small village. Must be a strong singer/actor who can stand up to Gaston (and the Beast!) as well as those who don't seem to understand her, while being able to show compassion for her father, the servants, and eventually the Beast. Vocal Range: G3 - F5
MAURICE is an eccentric, older inventor, yet most importantly, the adoring and protective father of Belle. This non-solo singing role requires an actor who can portray this "crazy old man" who also has very real human emotions: fear and fatherly love!
GASTON is pompous and dim-witted and will do whatever it takes to win Belle's hand. He is over-confident, but lacking the humility to balance it. Although the strongest man in town, a strong voice and acting ability are more important than his size. Strong gusto and arrogance key to the role. Vocal Range: A3 - F5
LEFOU is Gaston's equally dim-witted lackey with a lanky, awkward physicality. This character is Gaston's foil and should double the laughs for them both. Lefou should be a triple threat with great physical control and/or gymnastics training. Vocal Range: B3 - E5
The BEAST is the master of the castle who was transformed by the Enchantress's spell. Size is not as important as the ability to deliver a range of conflicting emotions: a dictator, a hurt child, a hero, a defender and a smitten prince. While the Beast does sing a few small solos, this is mostly an acting role.
The PRINCE may be played by a separate actor (having the biggest of the sung solo parts). Vocal Range: A3 - E5
LUMIERE is a self-confident, charming, French mâitre d' who (under the Enhantress's spell) is becoming a candelabra. He has a never-ending give-andtake with Cogsworth, so they must work well together. This is a serious triple threat role and requires a strong actor with a great range of emotion (from charming entertainer to brave soldier), strong vocalist capable of handling the largest solo, and prominent dance ability. The role requires a strong, reliable performer. Vocal Range: A3 - D5
COGSWORTH is the English major-domo of the castle who is becoming a mantle clock. He is both fatherly compassionate for Belle yet perfectly submissive to the Beast. Although sometimes a baby, Cogsworth has no hesitation to argue with Lumiere. Requires a strong actor/singer with a perfect British accent. Vocal Range: A3 - E5
MRS. POTTS is the castle's endearing cook who is becoming a teapot. Requires an actor who can speak with a strong, sweet, motherly voice that conveys comforting, maternal qualities amidst the castle’s chaos. Vocal Range: F3 - E5
BABETTE is the maid and "resident flirt" of the castle who is turning into a feather duster. She misses the finer things in life as well as just being a girl. Although happy to be at Belle's service at a moment's notice, her true desire is be a human debutant. Requires a triple threat: strong actor able to portray the flirt with a French accent, solid vocal skills to handle Babette's harmonies, and very strong dancer. Vocal Range: A3 - B4
MADAME DE LA GRANDE BOUCHE is an opera singer who is becoming a wardrobe. This ultimate "diva with a heart" has a big personality, a big voice, and is larger than life in everything she does. Madame has some harmony lines with Mrs. Potts and Babette, so requires a strong operatic singer who also knows when to pull back in order to blend. Vocal Range: A3 - C5
CHIP is Mrs. Potts's son, who is becoming a teacup. Requires a shorter actor who can portray the honesty and the spirit of a young child with a wonderful and endearing naïveté. Must also have a strong singing voice for a few solo lines. This role is a possible “show stealer!” Vocal Range: D4 - D5
The OLD BEGGAR WOMAN/ENCHANTRESS should be an actor with the ability to be visually dramatic. Her transformation in the Prologue from the Old Beggar Woman to the Enchantress should magically entice all into the story. Non solo.
The SILLY GIRLS are in love with Gaston and will do almost anything just to be near him. The three girls must portray the comic nature of these roles and play off each other well. They sing together in three numbers, so their sound should mix well. Vocal Range: C4 - F5
MONSIEUR D'ARQUE is the dark, creepy proprietor of the lunatic asylum. Requires a solid actor who can portray a sinister personality and sing a few solo lines.
