Auditions for the upcoming production of "BEOWULF: THE FIRST AVENGER.". There are at least 15 available roles. The minimum age to audition is 11 years old, and the maximum age is 18. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: BEOWULF: THE FIRST AVENGER is an original adaptation of one of the oldest and most important epic poems of Old English literature. Conceived and written by Alex Drinnen and Dennis E. Perkins, this exciting rendition tells the tale of the great Geat warrior Beowulf who saves the Kingdom of the Danes from not only the greedy ravages of the monster Grendel but also his equally fierce and vengeful mother. After his victories, Beowulf returns to his homeland to become King of his people where he will face monsters of his very own. Staged by KCT Artistic Director, Dennis E. Perkins, the epic scope of this tale about heroics, ethics, and the goodness of Kings will come to life through a visually dramatic presentation in the tradition of Total Theatre. Additional info: Auditonees should prepare a SHORT (one-minute) monologue from a classic play or novel. The monologue should express a wide emotional range and a theatrical level of volume and expression. The play’s genre is epic adventure. Choose an appropriate monologue, preferably from a published play. Auditionees may select a cutting from a published book. Pieces from Shakespeare’s works or other verse plays are encouraged. No songs or poems. Please, no monologues from films or television shows. Monologues will be evaluated on volume, clearness of diction, and depth of emotional expression. The ability of physical transformation is an advantage. Memorization is required. Auditionees should bring their calendars. Actors will be asked to list all conflicts with the rehearsal schedule. A detailed schedule will be available at the auditions. The director will make every attempt to work around conflicts, whenever possible. Rehearsals will begin on or about Sunday, August 25 continuing through Thursday, October 24, 2024. Rehearsals are held Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. Actors should expect to attend most, but not all, rehearsals; conflicts may be listed at the audition. Orientation/First rehearsal on Sunday, August 25 is mandatory for first time participants. Tech rehearsals, on October 17, 20, 21 ,23, and 24 are mandatory. Actors must also be available for all 11 regular performances: October 25- November 10, Thursdays through Sundays. The production will not rehearse August 30 – September 3 in observance of Labor Day. The production will not rehearse October 4-12 for Fall Break. If interested, please apply.
