About the project: With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye, a poor milkman, tries to protect his five daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality, and religion, creating additional themes of laughter, joy, and sadness. The Playhouse is currently seeking a medium sized ensemble of all ethnicities to portray a variety of characters, including Villagers and Russian Soldiers, who act, sing, and dance their way throughout the production. Some of these tracks may include portraying minor supporting named characters, moving and dancing on knees, flying, and performing at heights and on moving platforms.
