Singing Opportunities for Teens in "Little Shop Of Horrors"

Terre Haute, IN, United States
ID: 571104Exp: 8/22/2024
Description:

Looking for Terre Haute North high school students to audition for the "Little Shop Of Horrors" show. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS satirizes many things - science fiction, ‘B’ movies, musical comedy itself, and even the Faust legend. There will, therefore, be a temptation to play it for camp and low-comedy. This is a great and potentially fatal mistake. The script keeps its tongue firmly in cheek, so the actors should not. Instead, they should play with simplicity, honesty, and sweetness - even when events are at their most outlandish. The show’s individual “style” will evolve naturally from the words themselves and an approach to acting and singing them that is almost child-like in its sincerity and intensity. By way of example: AUDREY poses like Fay Wray (horror film actress best known for “King Kong”) from time to time. But she does this because she’s in genuine fear and happens to see the world as her private ‘B’ movie - not because she’s “commenting” to the audience on the silliness of her situation. When LSOH is at its most honest it is at its funniest and most enjoyable. Additional info: There are specific songs to sing, so you do not have to look for your own! Dancers who wish to only dance will not have to sing, there will be only a dance audition. There will be no callbacks. Note that the participation fee will be applied. Please download the attachment for details and audition material. SHOW DAY: Saturday, September 28th - SHOW DAY. Monday, September 30th - PARTY. When applying, please download the audition packet attached, complete and email it.

SEYMOURMale14-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Insecure, naive, put-upon. The florist’s clerk. Above all, he’s a sweet and well-meaning little man who is the hero of the story. He is NOT a silly, prat-falling nerd. Vocal and dance audition required. Class time, after school and Saturday rehearsals will be required.

AUDREYMale14-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Bleach-blonde, honest, sweet, vulnerable and insecure. She has poor self-esteem due to her bad taste in men, she is uneducated and dresses in spiked heels and a low-cut dress. She wishes the best for everyone except herself. Vocal and dance audition required. Class time, after-school and Saturday rehearsals will be required.

MUSHNIKMale14-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Seymour and Audrey’s boss and owner of the failing flower shop of skid row. He seldom smiles, often sweats and is very manipulative. Vocal and dance audition required. Class time, after school and Saturday rehearsals will be required.

ORINMale14-18 y.o.All ethnicities

A handsome, egotistical dentist in a black leather jacket with sadistic tendencies who is more like an insurance salesman and radio announcer than a greaser. Vocal and dance audition required. Class time, after-school and Saturday rehearsals will be required.

AUDREY II VOICEMale14-18 y.o.All ethnicities

The plant is an anthropomorphic cross between a Venus flytrap and a warty avocado. It has a huge, nasty-looking pod that gains a shark-like aspect when open and snapping at food; food being human blood! Audrey II sounds like a street-smart, funky, conniving villain with the Rhythm and Blues sound of Wolfman Jack and Barry White. The first time we see the plant it is 1 foot tall. You will probably be the puppeteer for the sizes 1 and 2 of Audrey II. Vocal and dance audition required.

CrystalFemale14-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Street urchins who function as the greek chorus throughout the show. They are young, hip, and smart - the only ones who know what’s going on at all times. They often break the fourth wall, singing to the audience with a secret smile that says “we know something you don’t know”. Vocal and dance audition required. Class time, after-school and Saturday rehearsals will be required.
