About the project: Set against the backdrop of Austria on the brink of World War II, The Sound of Music follows the adventures of a problem named Maria, new governess for the von Trapp family, who turns everyone’s world (including her own) upside down, underscored by some of the most unforgettable songs ever composed for the stage – “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “The Lonely Goatherd,” “Climb Every Mountain,” and more! Whether you’re an avid fan or experiencing the show live on stage for the very first time, this unique theatrical event will enchant and delight you and your loved ones this holiday season. Additional info: Children: The directors will teach a vocal selection from the show and will have a short dance audition and possible readings from the script. Teens – Please prepare a short vocal selection in the style of the show (bring sheet music if the selection is not from the show). Dance audition for the roles of Liesl and Rolf Also, expect cold readings from the script for key roles. Performance Dates: November 29, 30, December 6, 7 at 7:30 PM; December 1 and 8 at 2 PM; Special Sensory-Friendly performance – December 7 @ 2 PM Tentative Rehearsal Schedule: Sundays from 6 – 9:00 PM; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 – 10:00 PM, Rehearsals starting September 12. Mezzo Soprano –Liesl is the eldest of the Von Trapp siblings. She is innocent, naïve, coy, flirtatious, headstrong, and infatuated with Rolf. She is pretty but unsophisticated and tends to think everything is wonderful. She has a maternal edge and cares deeply and lovingly for her younger siblings. Age to be played as: 16; Vocal range: E5 to B3 Vocal; good dancing skills
(Supporting): Baritone- Rolf is 17 and is the telegram delivery character friend of Liesl. He is self-important, boasting, a very pleasant young character, and somewhat aggressive but in a gentle way. Rolf has Hitler as his paternal role model and the Nazi regime as a future goal. He seems to know an enormous amount of what is going on because of his job and seems to relish his spying tactics. Vocal range: E5 to C4; good dancing skills
(Featured): Teenager – Mezzo Soprano A smart, well-dressed young person who has a walk-on moment only – no dialogue. Can come from the nun ensemble. Vocal range: E5 to B3
