Seeking kid and teen actors for auditions for the play 'Gypsy'. Please see the details below for more information. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: The musical GYPSY is loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee and focuses on her mother Rose, whose name has become synonymous with “the ultimate show business mother” Gypsy has been referred to as the greatest American musical by numerous critics and writers. This musical story takes place in the roaring vaudevillian circuit of the 1920s and is filled with many of the most incredible and memorable showstoppers. Additional info: CALLBACKS by INVITATION ONLY: Saturday, June 29th, 2024. Please prepare a 32-bar cut of an appropriate musical theater song. No accompanist will be provided. No acapella singing. Mezzo, to play 9-10, Young Performer. A Shirley Temple-like up-and-coming vaudeville star, and Madam Rose's youngest daughter. Her onstage demeanor is sugary-sweet, cute, precocious, and adorable to the nth degree. An adorable character - Mama Rose's shining star. Strong singer, and a strong dancer.
Mezzo, about 12, Young Performer. She is Madam Rose's brow-beaten oldest daughter and has always played second fiddle to her baby sister. She is shy, a little sad and subdued; she doesn't have the confidence of her sister. Good dancer.
Alto, to play Baby June as a teenager. The older she gets, the less she enjoys being her mother's trained monkey. Strong dancer with special skills (baton twirling, splits, tap, etc) and strong singer.
