Born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Anne Frank and her family moved to Amsterdam to escape Nazi persecution. She started writing in her diary on her 13th birthday and chronicled their life in hiding until they were discovered by the Gestapo on August 4, 1944.
