Auditions for children ages 7-18 for the musical "Willy Wonka" are now open. Please review the details below. ONLY MD, VA & LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Callbacks will be on Sun May 19 from 1:00-3:00 pm Details: Auditions will include an opportunity for actors to sing, dance, and perform a cold reading from the show. Directors are asking that auditionees prepare 32 bars of a song and come wearing clothes they can move in. A draft rehearsal schedule will be available at auditions. Please come prepared to note your conflicts. Materials to Prepare: Singing: Please prepare a 32 bars cut to sing. Dancing: You will be taught a section of a dance and then will dance for the choreography team. Please bring clothes you can move in. Acting: Directors will provide cold reading sides for you at the audition table for each character. If you are interested please apply.

The mysterious title character. He is charming, enigmatic, charismatic, engaging, mysterious and slightly sinister. A chocolatier who guides children and their parents on a tour of his factory. He is looking for someone new to take over his candy empire. This actor should be both funny and serious and have the ability to change between the two on a dime.

Candy ManMale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

A local candy vendor. He leads the children in praising the joys of candy. He should be pleasant, charismatic, and friendly. The Candyman Sings the song “the Candy Man” and has some scene work with Charlie. Wonka is often double cast as the Candy Man.

Phineous TroutMale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

The reporter covering the Golden Ticket story. He or she announces the winners of the Golden Ticket contest throughout the show. Phineous is engaging and should have great comedic timing.

One of the Golden Ticket winners whose honesty and general good nature win Wonka over. Charlie is in nearly every scene and sings more than any character in the show.

A wealthy, spoiled Brit. She is accustomed to having her father indulge her every whim and desire. One of the Golden Ticket winners, she is subjected to the squirrels' nut chute after singing the song “I Want it Now”. British accent preferred, but not required.

A brassy girl with a competitive streak who is a gum-chewer extraordinaire. Hailing from Snellville, Georgia, Violet seizes every opportunity to show off. She turns into a giant blueberry in Act II while singing the song “Chew It”. Southern accent preferred, but not required.

An obnoxious, hyperactive child addicted to television, video games, and the internet. One of the Golden Ticket winners and Ms. Teavee's son. He sings the song “I See it all on TV” with his mother.

A gluttonous German boy. Cheerful and jolly, he defines himself by his ability to eat mass quantities of food. One of the Golden Ticket winners whose constant overeating is enabled and encouraged by Mrs. Gloop. (This actor should be comfortable wearing a costume that will enlarge his size). German accent preferred, but not required.

James is Charlie’s friend from school. He has a few lines and sings the introduction of “The Candy Man” with Matilda and Charlie.
