Rate: All roles are non-union and pay a small stipend. About the project: 8 short plays in the "Young Writers Short Play Festival" this year written by 8 very talented young teenaged playwrights. "Socrates, Small Fires, and Expiration Dates" by Haadia Hyder A totally average kid wants a cup of water. His deadbeat wanna-be-socrates dad stands in the way. Things hit the fan, chaos ensues, and someone might need to call 911. "Saccharine Poison" by Ted Liu Long ago, there was an assassin. The greatest assassin the world had ever seen. His name was Hemlock. Everyone had learned to fear the sweet poison that was his MO. "Letters From My Brother" by Stella Peters Two brothers, one is in the military with the goal of splitting off from the family while the other faces a mental health crisis while only wanting to be with his brother again. As the older brother ignores all of the younger brother's letters, he comes to realize that he needs to come home. Only now the younger brother has gotten to his final breaking point before he sees his older brother again. "It Was An Accident" by Evelyn Coen Sisters Allison and Marnie have never had an ideal relationship, but things take a drastic turn for the worse when Allison makes a horrible mistake that results in Marnie’s death. Marnie’s fury brings her back from the afterlife to demand that the truth of her death be revealed. "Chads In A Nail Salon" by Annabel Long Everyone knows that Chads and glam don't mix. So, when two girls take their boyfriends (both named Chad) out to a nail salon for a double date, things are bound to get crazy. Little do the girls know that the Chads have something big up their sleeve! "YOLO: The Old Folks Story" by Lynnix Price A short comedic tale about a group of “Seasoned Citizens” from the Sunshine Grove Retirement Home who are ready to take their last big adventure. "Meet The Browns" meets "Golden Girls" as Shirley, Betty, Beula, Harold, and Edward leave you laughing at their shenanigans and schemes while trying to reach their destination. "Coffee" by Ameila Connick A young teen sneaks a cup to commemorate a life changing event. A young couple shares a cup trying to muster the courage to tell the parents about their relationship. A 10-year-old kid wants to drink a cup to prove they’re mature enough to handle troubling news about their younger brother. A parent uses a cup analogically to explain to their young child that life can be both bitter and sweet. "Unwrapping Kindness: A Christmas in July Play" by Evelyn DiSalvo Just before Christmas, a widowed mother who just lost her job and is struggling to provide for her daughter seeks the help of a successful, wealthy family who are well known in town. To “look good” to the people of the town, the family decides to help the mother and daughter.
