Young Performers Needed for Theatre Audition "Little Woman"
Auditions are open for young performers for the theatre production of "Little Women." Please refer to the details below. About the project: Based on Louisa May Alcott's life, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested – her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more for herself. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America. This powerful musical score soars with the sounds of personal discovery, heartache, and hope – the sounds of a young America finding its voice. Additional info: Note: This production is for incoming, current, and recently graduated High School students. Performances are August 9-11, 2024. Rehearsals begin July 9, 2024, and will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 pm & Saturdays at 12:30 pm. Additional days may be added during tech week. Please bring an accompaniment track or prepare a sing acapella 16-32 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of the show and/or range of character(s) of interest. E3-A5; our protagonist described as an “impassioned girl” with “a quick temper, sharp tongue and restless spirit always getting her into scrapes.” While Jo comes across as defiant, she is also very vulnerable and fearful of change.
A#3-Gb5; The oldest, most romantic and beautiful of the March sisters. With grace and charm but no snobbery, she longs to be part of ‘Society’ and struggles with the fact that she will not get the “pretty things” that other girls have.
A3-G5; Beth is shy, timid but always peaceful in the comfort and security of the March home. She lives for her family, music and dolls. While she seems quite weak and innocent, she is wise (possibly beyond her years).
Cb4-Gb5; The youngest of the March sisters and naturally the least mature. Like her older sister, Meg, Amy longs for the fashion, riches and life of the high society and feels robbed for not having it.
Eb3-Eb5; A stoic woman, Marmee is the backbone of the March family and a source of wisdom, strength and courage for the girls.
Bb2-Bb4; begins as a bashful and lonely young man who longs for fun and company but his confidence grows especially as he finds joy and comfort in Jo and the other sisters' company.
E3-F5; A fierce and formidable matron, Aunt March wishes for the March girls to maintain their status in society and is determined to ensure that they have the right manners and etiquette.
G2-F#4; a German professor, very proper, a worrier, but has authority and confidence in his craft. He is not shy to share his opinions when it comes to work and literature, however, when it comes to his own feelings he struggles.
C#3-F#4; the charming tutor of Laurie who almost instantly steals Meg’s heart. His manners and persona oozes class without a sense arrogance.
D3-E4; Perceived originally to be an old and bitter man, he proves himself as a kind and compassionate gentleman who bonds particularly with Beth.
