"Ride the Cyclone" Teen Audition for the Theater

Open Youth Auditions (ages: 14+) for "Ride the Cyclone" (High School Edition). Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACEPTED. About the project: In this hilarious and outlandish story, the lives of six teenagers from a Canadian chamber choir are cut short in a freak accident aboard a roller coaster. When they wake up in limbo, a mechanical fortune teller invites each to tell a story to win a prize like no other — the chance to return to life. This increasingly popular cult musical is a funny, moving look at what makes a life well-lived! Additional info: Please prepare a 1 to 2-minute monologue and 32 bars of a memorized musical song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be available. Please provide your sheet music in the correct key. Teams encourage you to arrive 10 minutes before your time slot to fill out the audition form, conflict calendar, and consent form. If you already have a headshot, bring it along, but no worries if you don’t! ALL levels of experience are welcome to audition **REHEARSAL INFORMATION** The first rehearsal will be Monday, August 26. Rehearsals will be 3-4 weeknights. (Tech week rehearsals may require weekend availability) Directors will also have one or two video shoots and photo shoots which will be held far in advance of show rehearsals. Please provide schedule conflicts to the best of your ability for May through August. Once we have cast the show, we will finalize filming days based on everyone’s availability. Adopted from the Ukraine as a teenager; he has thick Ukrainian accent and a lot of rage; he is obsessed by Gansgsta Rap (an enormous fan of the auto-tune phenomena); but there is a hidden, soulful romantic side; Baritenor with the ability to sing lyrical Ukrainian folk music as well as rap.

The only gay kid in Uranium; never had a relationship; obsessed by French New Wave cinema, he has fantasies of dying a tragic death. Must be able to sing in the style of a French chanteuse.

Begins the play wordless and on crutches; suffers from a degenerative disease that has left him speechless and mostly immobile; he discovers at the beginning of the play that in this strange purgatory, he has regained all of these abilities. Baritone rock voice; basic accordion and/or tumbling a plus.

Dubbed “the nicest girl in town,” a title she secretly despises. There is a very deep self-loathing. Will do anything for Ocean’s friendship and allows herself to be used as a doormat; Very likable comic actress; alto belt, with a rock edge.

Jane DoeFemale14-18 y.o.All ethnicities

She was decapitated in the accident and no one claimed her body; even though she isn’t headless in the piece (but often carries around a headless doll). She reacts in a literal way and largely without emotion, almost robot-like; the other contestants are totally freaked out by her. Classically trained soprano with a flexible coloratura upper range, and some grit and meat in the lower register.
