Child Audition for Musical "Footloose: Youth Edition"
Seeking performers ages 10-18 years old for "Footloose: Youth Edition". Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Footloose: Youth Edition is a one-hour version of the explosive musical specially designed for young performers! One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn’t prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. Additional info: The initial audition will consist of a singing audition and acting exercise. The invitational callbacks will include dance, singing, and readings from the script. Please prepare a 32-bar (~30-second) cut from a song that fits the style of the show and suits your voice. This is a pop/rock musical, so consider songs from similar musicals like Rent, Aida, Kinky Boots, The Wedding Singer, Rock of Ages, Godspell, etc. Avoid modern pop music and musicals from very different genres (“A Spoonful of Sugar” will not tell directors how your voice will fit into this show!) Callbacks for the show will be on Wednesday, May 22nd by invitation. REHEARSALS: Rehearsals will be held 2 times per week (Mondays and Thursdays, 6-9 pm) from May through late June. Starting on June 23rd, there will be 3 rehearsals per week (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 6-9 pm) up until tech week. The first rehearsal will be Monday, May 27.
