About the project: "Bye Bye Birdie," an infectious musical that brings to life the tunes of Charles Strouse and the clever lyrics of Lee Adams. Premiering on Broadway in 1960, the musical garnered a Tony Award for Best Musical, setting the stage for its enduring success. Set in 1958, the story unfolds when rock and roll idol Conrad Birdie is drafted into the Army. The plot revolves around Albert Peterson, a New York-based songwriter facing financial turmoil after Birdie's departure. Albert's secretary, Rose "Rosie" Alvarez, concocts a publicity stunt to salvage their music firm, leading to a series of comedic escapades. "Bye Bye Birdie" stands as a captivating blend of nostalgia and humor set to music, capturing the essence of a transformative era. Join us on this journey through Sweet Apple, Ohio, where the magic of rock 'n' roll, teenage romance, and uproarious comedy collide. Additional info: CALLBACKS will be on Tuesday, May 7, from 5 - 9 p.m. Groups of 15 performers will sing and dance in one-hour blocks. You may audition for a specific role or for the ensemble.
