"Godspell" Musical Looking for Teenagers

Students entering the 6th grade in fall 2023 and up are invited to audition for the "Godspell" Musical. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Based on the Gospel according to Matthew, Godspell is the first musical theatre offering from composer Stephen Schwartz who went on to write such well-known hits as Wicked, Pippin, and Children of Eden. The show features a comedic troupe of eccentric players who team up with Jesus to teach his lessons in a new age through parables, games, and tomfoolery. Godspell also features the international hit, “Day by Day”, as well as an eclectic blend of songs ranging from pop to vaudeville, as Jesus’ life is played out onstage. Even after the haunting crucifixion, Jesus’ message of kindness, tolerance, and love lives vibrantly on. Additional info: Auditions will consist of singing, reading from the script, and a simple dance audition: Auditioners will need to prepare a song - about 1 minute in length - which they feel best demonstrates their vocal range; please provide your own recording backing track or sheet music for your song. The dance steps will be taught at the audition, and are mainly just to give auditioners an idea of what will be done in the show. Listen to the original cast recording and additional songs to get an idea (see the attachment). Arrangements in the production may differ slightly. The cast read-through will likely take place on Wednesday, April 26th. Rehearsals will begin May 1st, primarily Monday - Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm, with occasional Saturday late morning rehearsals. All cast members MUST be available for all 7 performance dates as well as all of the tech week, June 12-15th. Auditioners should plan to bring a list of conflicts.
