About the project: The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria, and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision. Additional info: Those auditioning are asked to prepare 16 measures of a Broadway-style song to be sung with recorded accompaniment and to be prepared to participate in cold readings from the script. While a sound system will be available for the playing of background tracks, there will not be an accompanist available for this audition. Rehearsals for The Sound of Music will begin with a read-through on April 6 (7-9 PM.) Music Rehearsals will begin April 10 and will be held Monday - Thursday from 5:30 to 9 PM with children meeting 5:30-7 and adults meeting from 7-9 (unless involved in a number with the children.) Blocking and Choreography will begin on April 24. At that time, rehearsals will run 6:30-9 for all cast members.
