13 roles

JO MARCHFemale14-18 y.o.All ethnicities

The second in the line of March sisters, Jo knows exactly who she is but struggles in a world where she doesn’t quite fit. Jo is often caught between a desire to rebel against the world or escape entirely. Jo is headstrong and bold but not fearless; she feels things too deeply. She is book-smart and a late bloomer. She is a talented writer who creates melodramas for page and stage. Jo is also the narrator of our memory play.

MEG MARCHFemale16-18 y.o.All ethnicities

The eldest of the March sisters, Meg is kind, gentle, and strong. She leads by example and hopes to be as much like her mother as possible. She is a romantic and believes in love, but is tempered by her responsible side. This is why she is caught between a love of acting and a talent for teaching. Both use similar aspects of her personality, but one is a dream and one is a practicality.

BETH MARCHFemale12-16 y.o.All ethnicities

Born third in the line of March sisters, Beth is the peacemaker, the listener, and everyone’s “person.” She has a profound ability to make people feel seen and to love them unconditionally. She believes in giving love generously and is happy with her role in the family. Beth is unusually talented at creating music and plays the piano with instinctive skill.

AMY MARCHFemale10-14 y.o.All ethnicities

The youngest of the March sisters, Amy dislikes being the baby and so she has taken it upon herself to be precocious, refined, and “grown” before her time. Amy is very pretty and has always been told as much. She is not vain but, rather, honest and forthright about her qualities (and everyone else’s). She sparkles and charms everyone with a grace that comes naturally to her. Amy has a fierce heart, a fearless nature, and unmatched determination.

MARMEE MARCHFemale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

She is a woman who fell in love and created a family with the father of her children. This is different from saying she is a “wife and mother.” She has the endurance and fortitude of someone who has been through the labor intensive years of having four small children close in age. Now, with all of her teenage children still living at home, she is savoring motherhood.

MR. LAURENCEMale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Laurie is an only child and has spent most of his life around adults. He is well-read and has a quick mind. He is generous, kind, and wants to be brave but his cautious nature gets the best of him. Laurie is educated, wealthy, good looking, and the world is his oyster. But he wishes someone would see him the way he sees himself.

HANNAHFemale13-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Servant. She has been with the family since before the girls were born. She is considered more of family member then a servant. Her dry humor and abrupt manner do not conceal her warm and loyal affection for the family.
