Casting Kids & Teens for "The SpongeBob" Musical Show
Looking to cast kids & teens ages 7+ for "The SpongeBob" Musical Show. Please see the details below. About the project: The SpongeBob Musical is based on the beloved and well-known animated series, but it is NOT performed with "mascot style" costuming and is actually quite different than the cartoon. It is an uplifting and upbeat show with a lot of heart and humor. The themes include unlikely heroism, friendship, pushing past boundaries, diversity and acceptance, and small town pride. Additional info: Participants should prepare a short song (about 1 minute, or about 16-32 bars). Please bring sheet music, or your music as an instrumental track (no background vocals) on an MP3 player, phone, iPod, etc. Teams will provide an aux cord to plug your device into our speaker. If you wish to bring your own small speaker, connected to your device, you may. Song should reflect your best vocal abilities and be "themed" like the songs from the show. Directors do not recommend auditioning with a song from the show. Invited callbacks will be held on January 11. 2023 at 6:30 PM. **Note: It is not necessary to attend both days of the initial audition. Please bring water in a closed container with a tightly fitting lid. There will be a short dance audition for some performers. You will sing for us first, and then may be asked to wait to learn the dance. Please wear or bring shoes/clothes you can move in. See the document attached for more details. \If interested please apply.
33 roles
(Range: B2-Bb4) The greedy owner of the Krusty Krab, and employer of SpongeBob and Squidward. While everyone is off panicking about Bikini Bottom's imminent doom, he decides to strike the iron while it's hot and puts on a huge "apocalypse sale" at his restaurant, exploiting the fear of his fellow fish to make him even richer.
(Range: Bb2-Bb4) SpongeBob's simple-minded starfish friend and an unlikely hero. He may be dumb and lazy on the outside, but inside, he just wants someone to listen to what he has to say. He becomes a sort of deity and leader of the Sardines, who beg to hear his every word. Must have excellent comic timing.
(Range: A3-E5) A brainy and athletic Texan squirrel who came to Bikini Bottom for a research project. She acts as SpongeBob's most trusted ally on their quest to stop the volcano from erupting, using her vast amount of scientific knowledge and brilliant inventions to aid the mission. Quirky, energetic, and cute.
(Range: B2-G#4) The scheming owner of the Chum Bucket who has big plans for world domination. He uses the Mount Humongous disaster to his advantage by convincing everyone to leave Bikini Bottom and settle into a new town, where he'll tyrannically take them over as their new Evil Overlord. But they don't know that, of course.
(Range: C3-B4) Everyone's favorite yellow sponge, and the hero of our story. Bright, cheery, and always optimistic, SpongeBob knows how to maintain a positive attitude, even when a deadly volcano threatens to destroy his beloved town. Must be a triple threat, and extremely likeable. Must have great body awareness and able to do a wide variety of stage physicality.
(Range: A2-F#4) SpongeBob and Patrick's cranky, clarinet-playing neighbor. He has a very gloomy outlook on life, believing the world’s “a horrible place filled with fear, suffering, and despair", but nonetheless, he dreams of becoming a famous stage star for the sake of his late mother, and is willing to do just about anything to achieve his big break. This performer will wear fake "tentacle" legs, and must be comfortable with wearing a legs attachment throughout rehearsals and performances.
(Range:Bb3-F#5) Mr. Krabs' adopted teenage daughter who is a whale. Even though her father spoils her silly, she deeply detests his greed and wants him to prioritize his family, not his profits. She's also a huge fan of the famous rock band the Electric Skates, and eventually plans to run away with them after she's had enough of her dad's neglect. Must be a skilled vocalist with a strong belt.
(Range: G#3-F#5) A waterproof supercomputer who is Plankton's snarky sidekick and wife. She aids her husband in his plot to take everything over after realizing that his evil plan is putting the spark back into their relationship. Karen is sassy and sarcastic!
SpongeBob's teacher at Boating School, an underwater school where students learn to drive boats like cars. She slowly evolves into a drunken wreck as she drinks more kelp juice.
(Range: D3-F4 (F5 falsetto)) The Pirate President of the SpongeBob fan club. Eager to see his idol star in his very own Broadway musical, Patchy sets up his own little VIP seat right in front of the stage, before getting booted out by security guards. He constantly tries sneaking his way back into the theater throughout the majority of the show. Looking for an actor with tremendous comic timing and the ability to command an audience.
(Range: E2-E4) The head news anchor of Bikini Bottom News. He keeps everyone up-to-date on the current state of their doomed hometown. Deep voice and sings opening stanza of "No Control."
A famous rock band who's hired to perform at the Bikini Bottom benefit concert. Stereotypical "rock stars" with cool dude attitudes and speech. They're known to rock out while zipping across the stage on skateboards and roller skates, hence the name. In a perfect world, these performers will know how to roller-skate, ride a hoverboard, or rollerblade!
A muscular dim-witted lobster who spends most of his time "getting his claws swole." He eventually becomes the Mayor's bodyguard.
Traditional cartoon-esque voice-over. A very funny featured role.
(Range: F#4-B5) The overbearing Mayor of Bikini Bottom. She claims that everything is under control as the apocalypse draws nearer, but it's pretty clear that she has absolutely no idea what to do... so she decides to become a dictator.
A cranky old man fish who leads an angry mob against Sandy for being a land creature. Must be a very good comedian, and able to seize the hilarious moments in this funny featured role.

An opportunity for our youngest performers to dip their toes into the water without the full commitment of the mainstage musical. Telegrammers perform a short song/dance before Act One and Act Two, and deliver "telegrams" (handwritten personal messages to cast/crew members) during Pre-Show and Intermission. The rehearsal schedule for Telegrammers is reduced to only one night per week, with the exception of tech week.
