"25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" Play Seeks Teenagers
The company is holding auditions for the "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." Auditions are open to ages 16 and older. Please see the details below. About the project: An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves the champion! At least the losers get a juice box. Additional info: Show plays: February 27, 28, March 1*, 5, 6, 7, 8*, 12, 13, 14, 15* Please prepare a song (not from the show) with a karaoke/backing track and a short monologue acting like a kid (if auditioning for one of the kid roles). Monologue should be a minute or so and memorized if possible (if not no biggie). Also, be prepared to cold read from the script.
