About the project: LA MORDIDA - After a freak accident at her 13th birthday leaves Mari with an eye patch and the ability to speak with the dead, she begins communicating with her late grandfather, Rafa, who leads her on a treasure hunt for hidden cash throughout the house. As Mari follows his instructions, she uncovers a series of buried family secrets—and must decide whether to protect the family’s carefully constructed façade or bring the truth to light. A journey into self-reflection and personal histories, this surreal ghost story is told through the lens of magical realism as a young girl comes of age and must grow into the responsibility of her family’s burdens. Rate: This is a small stipend-based gig. The directors are a low-budget independent film, so please be mindful of that! non-union, but will get credit, reel footage & meal! From a young age, Mari has always been able to sense when something is wrong with the adults and has become a master eavesdropper. She is constantly trying to put the pieces together to understand why people are upset. *Language Requirements: Spanish - needs to be able to understand Spanish fluently, speaking fluency is not required. Mari’s curious younger brother. Diego looks up to his sister, but also gets frustrated when he cannot be a part of the ‘older cousin’ conversations. He seeks his sister’s approval, but cannot help pestering her either. His grandmother’s not-so-secret favorite, Diego gets away with a lot in her house, but not so much with his mother Ximena. Mari’s cousin, Tía Elena's son. Inquisitive and artistic. Alex looks up to Mari as the oldest cousin, but they are also close friends. They tell each other everything, and as the oldest of the cousins, they tend to keep secrets from the younger ones. Alex is a big fan of Elvis, and likes to dress in clothing that reflects that. He also carries around his keyboard wherever he goes. SUPPORTING.

Mari’s cousin, Tío Rafa’s son. Playful, mischievous, and energetic. Looks up to his dad. As the youngest cousin, he gets away with a lot (even if he gets caught sometimes). SUPPORTING.
