Seeking Teen Performers for the Play "Squabbles" – See Details Below! About the project: Squabbles is a comedic two-act play by Marshall Karp featuring a cast of four men and three women. The story centers on Jerry Sloan, a successful advertising jingle writer, and his equally successful lawyer wife, Alice, who live with her cantankerous father, Abe Dreyfus. Abe’s grumpy demeanor already strains the household, particularly with Jerry, but tensions escalate when Jerry’s mother, Mildred, loses her home in a fire and moves in. Abe and Mildred clash immediately, sparking a series of hilarious confrontations fueled by their mutual disdain. The fireworks between these two strong-willed people take on a life of it’s own, driven by witty banter and chaotic family dynamics, complicated further by Alice and Jerry expecting their first child. Throw in for extra flavor the presence of quirky supporting characters like a handyman/gardener and a trusted, loyal neighbor, and you end up with a rollicking 1980’s sitcom-like comedy that promises pure, hilarious entertainment. Additional info: Rehearsals start Monday, July 28th, and continue every Monday-Thursday until opening night. Performances will be every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from October 10th to November 2nd. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. Plan to arrive early to fill out an audition form. Please write clearly, especially your contact information. Headshots and resumes are not required. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian needs to be present. Please bring your personal calendar and provide a complete list of your conflicts through the run of the show. Please prepare 60 seconds of any song that best showcases your vocal range and fits the style of character you are interested in auditioning for. You may choose a song from the musical you are auditioning for if you like. Limit your selection to 1 minute, or about 32 bars. Using a smartphone recording of your accompaniment is OK. A successful advertising jingle writer, 30ish. He’s witty, somewhat exasperated by his living situation and caught in the middle of his wife’s and father-in-law’s conflicts. He tries to keep the peace in the household while navigating his own frustrations, especially when his mother moves in. He’s reasonable, intelligent and will do anything for his wife.
Jerry’s wife, 30ish. Sharp, accomplished lawyer. She pregnant with her and Jerry’s first child, adding stress to an already chaotic home. She is loving, set in her ways, sensitive and quick-minded, often mediating between her father, Abe, and Jerry, while dealing with the new dynamic brought by Mildred’s arrival.
Man or woman, 30ish. Helps out around the Sloan household with landscaping and small fix-it projects. A colorful and animated personality. Lives in the past and likes to talk with his/her hands resulting in an occasional accident such as knocking over a glass or small household item. Honest, quirky and a bit clumsy, possesses a heart of gold.
